Upgrade to Visionic 5 and get rid of HASP keys!

January 22nd, 2013

In order to simplify the installation and use of  Visionic licenses, from the version 5.x  we will no longer procure HASP keys as this hardware protection is replaced with the simple software based protection.

This would be just one of the reasons why we would recommend our clients to upgrade to Visionic 5.

Furthermore, Visionic 5 has a new function, Visionic Switchboard, where the complete system is started with one icon. It is the central place for all Visionic projects and where all operators’ and designers’ tasks are organized into one user interface.

In addition, both design and runtime functions are now united in one license, therefore separate design license is not needed anymore. This allows easy changes of the system and cuts the operational costs.

Visionic 5 is still compatible with custom scripts written for Visionic 4 servers, which minimizes the overall transfer time from Visionic 4 to Visionic 5 systems.

Different types of Visionic 5 licenses are available following the specification required by your application:

  • Visionic Professional, the full version aimed at large telecom systems worldwide and support for an unlimited number of devices.
  • Visionic Frontline, the perfect solution for small and medium sized M&C systems for satellite and broadcast centers, with support for up to 7 devices.
  • Visionic VSAT, a preconfigured system for VSATs and SNGs. This license has been designed to support small systems with up to 7 devices.
  • Visionic Lite, designed for SNMP and MODBUS devices only.

Intorel’s COO present plans for 2013 in interview for Sat Magazine

December 10th, 2012

DraganaLSat Magazine published an interview with Intorel’s Chief Operating Officer Dragana Lazic-Mijanovic. Dragana is talking about Intorel’s successes over the past year, challenges for the satellite industry in the coming year, and providing insight on upcoming projects from Intorel for 2013.

What successes did Intorel enjoy over the past year?

With the on-going switchover to digital transmission, Intorel’s goal was to develop a product that would answer the challenges that broadcasters are facing every day—how to insure uninterrupted, reliable transmission of the content. We answered these challenges by developing DVB Master Commander – DVBMC.

DVBMC is the ultimate cross-platform software for monitoring and controlling of DVB equipment. It is the first universal solution targeted directly toward today’s broadcasting operators.

The software runs on all platforms and comes as a complete system consisting of full network device management, service management, real-time alarming, as well as trending and scheduling functions, which are usually sold as separate products.

Long-term relationships are crucial in the ever-changing market where clients are looking more and more to cut costs by engaging the competition. Intorel take it as a success and a sign of trust that over the years the list of our long-term clients faithful to our products and services has grown bigger. We take it as an ultimate proof of the quality of our products. Long term cooperation is beneficial for both the client and the supplier. We know what clients need and want, and we can easily, and with full understanding, answer their needs.

Independent execution of the projects—In the last year we mostly executed the projects directly with the customers. We have seen many of the system integrators disappear over the last few years. Now, clients are taking over specification of the project and the project management and working directly with the manufacturers. This direct contact allows for fast and extremely efficient execution of the projects. In addition, direct contact with the customer is giving us an access to the real-time situations and enabling us to get the information that is necessary for the development of the future products fully tailored to the customers’ needs.

New markets—Intorel’s experience and expertise, quality of our products and flexibility of the execution were the main reasons which allowed us to enter new markets, such as Myanmar. With the appropriate preparation, it is possible to execute the project even on a long distance with the same quality and speed. That was a case with the uplink project that we executed in close cooperation with our local partner and the client.

What challenges did Intorel need to overcome this past year, and what challenges will the satellite industry—and specifically your market segment—face over the next few months?

Cutting costs—With the content that is more and more available on the Internet and fibre, clients are less ready to pay for the content (only sport, kids entertainment and the adult industry remain the contents that are earning money). Broadcasters are facing a rough time as their revenues are diminishing. At the same time, they are facing tough competition and ever increasing demands from their clients. For that matter, the need for the reliable automation and products that will increase reliability is obvious. Of course, our answer was DVBMC.

Cutting staff costs—It’s a challenge, as the staff should be an engine of the development of the new products and the implementation of the projects. It’s not rare that projects are late because the staff is overbooked and companies understaffed. This leaves us with more work for suppliers. The investors are blocking development, so the projects are getting longer and longer and there is no space for the development of the new advanced features and products. The staff has less time to develop proper ideas of improvement of the work process.

Purchasing managers and investors—The cutting of costs and staff is complicating the process of orders. Administration costs are growing and we do wonder if there is any merit to this additional control. No more development and research. The contact with suppliers is quite often damaged as investors are doing all in their power to cut costs, even if such extends projects, damages relationships, and at the end, makes the projects even more expensive…

What upcoming projects are in the works and what may we expect to see from Intorel over the next three to four quarters?

Intorel is working on the overhaul of its flagship monitoring and controlling software, Visionic. We will be releasing Visionic 6.0 in 2013—we also expect a lot from our DVB Master Commander.

Visionic has been in the market for more than a decade and it’s fair to say that Visionic has become an industry standard for monitoring and controlling. We are keeping our pace with the latest software and hardware developments and making the product more stable and easier to use with every upgrade. We are also planning to organize worldwide road shows to demonstrate and advertise Intorel’s products; the exact dates will be confirmed at our Company website, so please visit when such is convenient to do so.

Visionic 5: Advantages & Features

December 7th, 2012

visionicpresentationVisionic 5 is a centralized system, which is easy to use and saves you time with its innovative functions and proven technology.

You can connect your complete system, from ingest, to baseband, IT, RF and the infrastructure equipment, all in one single place.

With the new function of Visionic 5, Visionic Switchboard, the complete system is started with one icon. It is the central place for all Visionic projects and where all operators’ and designers’ tasks are organized into one user interface.

You will also have access to all the shortcut icons for all Visionic tasks and frequently used features in a simple click.

In the previous Visionic versions, HASP keys were needed for the software license. With Visionic 5, you have a simpler and software-based Visionic license, therefore you don’t need HASP keys anymore and the installation is a lot faster and easier.

Another key point is that with Visionic 5, you don’t need to pay for both design and runtime license anymore, as they both became one and only license, hence you will save money and will be able to invest it in other projects.

All Visionic 5 projects are stored under a single directory with the file structure compatible with previous versions (ini_files). This organization allows easier project management and import/export operations.

Projects also now carry their own copy of the drivers, so all the changes are local and affect only the current projects.

Besides, since all the device customizations are now within the projects, they are easily and quickly transferred from one computer to another.

Another important feature is that the new Visionic 5 is still compatible with custom scripts written for Visionic 4 servers. This minimizes the overall transfer time from Visionic 4 to Visionic 5 systems.

Lastly, different types of Visionic 5 licenses are available following the specification required by your application:

Visionic Professional is the full version aimed at large telecom systems worldwide and it supports an unlimited number of devices.

The perfect solution for small and medium sized M&C systems for satellite and broadcast centers is Visionic Frontline, as it supports up to 7 devices.

Visionic VSAT is a preconfigured system for VSATs and SNGs. This license has been designed to support small systems with up to 7 devices.

Finally, Visionic Lite is designed for SNMP and MODBUS devices only.

Upgrade to Visionic 5.2

November 5th, 2012

With the new Visionic 5.2, you will benefit from new upgrades and improvements – for example the fact that the device drivers are now asynchronous, which minimizes the processing time and therefore allows even bigger Visionic systems to be run on a standard hardware.

Besides, the server will not block at any operation and it also increases the availability of the server.

All the bugs of the previous Visionic versions have been corrected and you will then profit of a better and faster Visionic by upgrading to the new version, Visionic 5.2.

At Intorel, we care that our clients have the best and most user-friendly product possible.

That is why the new Open Dialog allows listing views (list, details) as well as sorting and filtering by any column in the dialog, when opening projects in Visionic 5.

It makes searching and opening the projects faster for the user.

By upgrading you will benefit of new features, as for the more than 15 new device drivers that were added in order to always keep the library up to date.

Moreover, the device drivers can now produce log files automatically.

They’re kept for user to check the debugging and runtime data of each device later on and so that he can compare the present and past operations of the devices.

Read more about the update on Visionic blog.

Intorel’s latest version of its M&C software, Visionic 5.2, has arrived.

October 24th, 2012

Intorel’s latest version of its industry standard software for M&C, Visionic 5.2, is now available.

As the company is constantly looking for innovation and improvement, Visionic 5.2 has gone through some changes in order to increase the client’s experience with Visionic.

The SNMP template builder has been improved, such as drag-drop support, sorting of the variables and similar.

More than 15 new device drivers were added so that the library is always kept up to date and the alarm center bug has been corrected and can now correctly execute all actions and macros that have been set up.

As to ease the user’s work and due to prevalent demand, the device drivers can now produce log files automatically. They’re kept for user to check the debugging and runtime data of each device later on and so that he can compare the present and past operations of the devices.

Visionic 5.2 device drivers are now asynchronous, which minimizes the processing time, allowing even bigger Visionic systems to be run on a standard hardware. The server will not block at any operation and it also increases the availability of the server.

Another point is that the Visionic 5 documentation has been updated with all the information about SNMP devices and templates, which was previously in a separate appendix.

The license detection mechanism has been changed, meaning that hardware changes, such as change of MAC address, do not affect the license. The system used to previously ask to re-enter the license in case of some VPN Network softwares.

Upon changing the alarm level in the Alarm Center, the client would only apply the new level after the restart of the system. This issue has been corrected in the newest version and Alarm Center will apply the correct level and color at the next alarm raise, without any system restart.

The TabStripEx script (VBscript) has been updated, as in the previous version, a bug caused Visionic client to load very slowly if a lot of TabStripEx elements had been misconfigured. The system is now updated in order to allow swift loading and operation, even if the element is not correctly configured in Visio.

In addition, a Virtual Service Element has been included in Visionic 5.2 and, besides the existing functionality, it can now produce custom-based alarms.

An HTTP/XML device driver has been also incorporated and it allows connecting HTTP / HTTPS devices into Visionic system.

Moreover, when opening projects in Visionic 5, the new Open Dialog allows listing views (list, details) as well as sorting and filtering by any column in the dialog. It makes searching and opening the projects faster for the user.

Dependency files have been incorporated in the client setups because in the previous version of Visionic, when installing remote client for some systems, not all the files would be transferred. The engineer would have then to copy a driver from the server machine and manually register it. In the new version, 5.2, these issues are solved and all necessary files for the remote client execution are comprised.

Lastly, the version number of the Visionic system (5.2 currently) has been added and is now prominent on the dashboard, client and server startup screens.

Since 2002, the very first launch of the first version of Visionic, the product has been carefully revised and improved, as to become what it is today – an industry standard, proven by hundreds of systems and recommended by the most distinguished companies around the world.

Visionic 5.2 provides integration of all your subsystems into a single, convenient solution. From there, you can detect, connect and operate your remote or in-house equipment in any way you can possibly imagine.

It is designed to be used by any industrial monitoring, controlling and automating application that requires reliability, automation and advanced features. In particular, Visionic products have been used for: DVB-S/S2 Satellite Uplink Stations, VSAT Systems, TVRO Systems, Fixed and Mobile Microwave Links, DSNG Systems, Fiber Optic Systems, DVB-T Encoding & Multiplexing Head-ends, ATM/SDH/PDH/IP Transport Networks and IPTV Head-ends.

Case Study: Installation of the Uplink M&C system in Myanmar

September 26th, 2012

uponarrival1In December 2011, the Intorel team went to Myanmar to install an Uplink Monitoring & Controlling system on the Tanyin Uplink station, which belongs to the Ministry of Telecommunications.

In November 2011, we received the station’s hardware schematic and started immediately to prepare the entire system in house, here in Luxembourg, taking in consideration the station’s needs and requirements.

We prepared everything in demo version, all the device drivers were tested in house, so that when we would be there, we’d only have to install it on the server and on the client.

During the preparation of the project we advised our local partner on the hardware requirements needed for the installation of the Visionic.

Our partner company Anatron organised and secured timely shipment and procurement of all of the equipment locally, as to minimize the costs and simplify the logistics.

We did this so we could prevent any transport and customs issues related to import of the equipment, while at the same time one of the client’s requirement was to procure equipment in the region, as to help the local economy.

entrance2making3

Due to planning ahead, everything was already there when the Intorel team arrived at the Myanmar station, therefore all we had to do was start cabling and connecting the equipment to the server.

As their previous equipment was quite old, we had to rearrange the connectors and cables so that they would fit properly, which was no problem for us.

Before starting the connection to the devices, we had to pull the cables from the equipment to the server.

custommade4connecting5

From the beginning, we found it important to let our customers participate on the installation and connection of the system, and to keep them up to date with the process of installation.

This way, they would know how everything was installed and connected and where everything is, so that in case there would be a problem, they would know how to repair it.

collaborative6checking7

After the whole installation of the server and the connection of the rest of the gear was done, we tested it to check the communication of the server with the equipment.

As everything was working correctly, time came to provide training for our clients.

We explained them how Visionic works, what happens and how it shows when there is a problem, and how they could make changes on Visionic.

onsitetraining8wokringwith9

With planning ahead, as well as cooperation from our clients, we managed to finalise the installation and the operators’ training in 4 days.

After our work was done, it was time to head back to Luxembourg.

We would like to also thank our trusted partner Anat Bongsudhiruks from Anatron, without whom we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do business with Myanmar and meet such wonderful people.

Anat was our project leader and helped us to make this project by guiding us so that we could fulfil all the clients’ wishes and needs in the best possible way.

It would definitely not be our last time in Myanmar.
